Porsche made 918 units of its 918 Spyder. Ferrari built 500 LaFerrari hardtops, followed by 209 open-top Apertas. McLaren kept it more exclusive with the P1, building just 375 production cars, as well as 58 GTRs and a few XP cars, some of which they also sold for seven figures. Bugatti will only produce 500 Chirons, while those looking for the world's quickest electric car had to be equally rapid to grab one of just eight in existence.

Yes. Europe's most ambitious carmaker only built eight Concept Ones, as well as a pair of even more powerful, track-focused Concept Ses. That's because ten cars is all they needed to demonstrate the capabilities of their cutting-edge EV technology and complete vehicle development process. But now, it's time for more. After finding the right investors, Rimac is going all in.
The 1224 HP Rimac Concept One Paves The Future
Mate Rimac started his company in Croatia by turning a BMW E30 into a ridiculously quick EV. Then, he built his own hypercar, using the most efficient electric motors to make it quicker off the line than any other production car in the world. Now, they say the next Rimac will be bigger and more comfortable, making most of an even smarter torque vectoring system. They will also build 150 regular production cars as well as another 50 or so special editions for a complete run of around 200 units. More useable, more accessible, more of a proper product.
Coming up with a new model shouldn't be too hard. Rimac's previous projects include development work on the W Motors Lykan HyperSport, the Tajima E-Runner for Pikes Peak, the electric bits of the Koenigsegg Regara, and the battery pack of Aston Martin-Red Bull Racing 's upcoming hypercar, which offers Formula E performance in a road car. Projects like these (and all the confidential ones they can't talk about) don't land in the hands of amateurs. Rimac is clearly on the top of the EV game, and now, they intend to cash in on all that know-how.
Christian von Koenigsegg has been helping Rimac making the right choices along the way.
Rimac
Mate Rimac always made sure to do as much in house as possible, starting from the design process and following through to full scale production. It didn't take long for them to become the coolest company to work for in Croatia, with Rimac and sister company Greyp (electric bikes) attracting around 200 new employees from all over the world in the last three years. Rimac will continue by setting up a joint venture in China in order to reach sufficient capacity to become the biggest OEM supplier of electric car components.
Beating giants like Bosch, Continental, Denso or Magna is no easy task, but Rimac says they offer more flexibility as well as far superior, dedicated technology at a price that will be competitive on the global market. With traditional carmakers and their suppliers being one step behind in this field, it will be a torque-heavy race to the top.
